What distances are there?

GO TRI – 10km bike and 3.75km run

Sprint – 20km bike and 7.5km run

Standard – 40km bike and 15km run

Do I have to swim to be involved in the Virtual Challenge?

No, the virtual challenge is a duathlon, swimming is not part of the challenge.

Do I need to complete the challenge all at once?

No, you can cover the distances however you wish over the course of the week. However, you must complete the distances by midnight on Sunday 26 July to be added to the Virtual Challenge leaderboard.

When do I do the Virtual Challenge?

Virtual Challenge week starts on Monday 20 July and goes until Sunday 26 July. Anyone who has signed up and completes the distances in that week via Strava will be included on the Virtual Challenge leaderboard.

How do I sign up?

Visit https://www.festivaloftriathlon.co.uk/ and complete the entry form. Entry closes on Saturday 25 July. 

How old do you need to be to participate in the Virtual Challenge?

Participants must be 15 years and above for the GO TRI and Sprint distances & 17 years and above for the Standard distance, as of 31/12/2020. Children aged 8-14 can enter the Kids Virtual Challenge here – https://www.festivaloftriathlon.co.uk/kids-challenge/

Will I need a Strava account to participate in the Virtual Challenge?

Yes, every participant needs to have a Strava account. It is quick and easy to sign up and this can be done for free here https://www.strava.com/

How much will it cost to participate in the Virtual Challenge?

If you have entered for AJ Bell World Triathlon Leeds 2020, we invite you to take place in the Virtual Challenge free of charge. 

If you have not entered AJ Bell World Triathlon Leeds 2020, it will cost you £5 to participate in the Virtual Challenge. 

You will also be given the opportunity to donate to our Charity Partner, Leeds Cares.

What will I get once I have completed the activity?

Once your distances are reached and logged on the Virtual Challenge leaderboard you will receive a digital certificate and your AJ Bell World Triathlon Leeds medal in the post. Please allow a few weeks for these to arrive, as it is dependent on the post.

I am currently signed up to the AJ Bell World Triathlon Leeds, in the Virtual Challenge, do I have to do the distance I had entered for Leeds?

No, when you register to the Virtual Challenge, the entry will automatically link to your Leeds entry, but you can change your distance when entering. You will then be able to select a different distance for this virtual event. 

I don’t live in the UK can I still take part?

Yes, you are welcome to enter, but we will be unable to post medals to outside of the UK. Therefore, you will not receive a medal for completing the Virtual Challenge.

Can my friends and family take part?

Yes, anyone over the age of 15 can sign up to the main virtual challenge, we want as many people to get involved as possible. If you have children aged 8-14 they can take part in our Kids Virtual Challenge here – https://www.festivaloftriathlon.co.uk/kids-challenge/

I entered the AJ Bell World Triathlon Leeds in the TriStar event; can I take part in the Virtual Challenge?

Yes, any child aged 8-14 can take part in our Kids Virtual Challenge here – https://www.festivaloftriathlon.co.uk/kids-challenge/ . If you are 15 years old and above as of 31/12/2020, you can take enter the main virtual challenge here – https://www.festivaloftriathlon.co.uk/

Do I need to complete the bike element of the Virtual Challenge outside?

No, you can complete the bike on a turbo trainer or static bike, but you will need to make sure this is still registered via Strava. If you are using Zwift why not try the Tempus Fugit, which is in Watopia (https://zwiftinsider.com/route/tempus-fugit/) This is flat and fast, so would help you get a good time. Remember you will just need to continue at the end to make up the distance.

Can I take part with my triathlon club?

Yes, when you enter you will be asked if you are a member of a club. On the leaderboard you will be able to see this information. Therefore, you will be able to see everyone from your club who has also completed the activity. Why not agree a run and bike route with your club to use for the challenge and then you can compare your times! Please make sure you follow Government guidance on exercising and social distancing.

Are there prizes for finishing top of the leaderboard?

The AJ Bell World Triathlon Leeds Virtual Challenge is not a competition, it is a participation challenge which encourages you to get active and have fun.

My Strava account is not linking to my entry?

The adult challenge leaderboard will be visible from Monday 20 July and so will the function to connect your Strava account. Simply login go to the dashboard and click the button to connect your account.

How do I know what region I’m in?

Visit https://www.britishtriathlon.org/clubs/search and search for your club. When you click on your club’s name it tells you the region in the club information section.

I can’t see my time on the leaderboard?

You will only appear on the leaderboard once you have completed your total distance in the Virtual Challenge week (20th-26th July).

Can I pick which time to use from my Strava?

No, the site will automatically pull the times recorded for the first activity/ies that meet the Virtual Challenge distance in the challenge week (20th-26th July). For example if you are doing the GO TRI and run 3.75km on Monday 20th, Wednesday 22th and Friday 24th, the leaderboard will pull your time from the 3.75km on Monday, even if your 3.75km on Wednesday and Friday was faster. This is something to take into account when planning how and when to complete your challenge.

I originally entered AJ Bell World Triathlon Leeds and ordered merchandise. Will I receive this merchandise as part of this activity?

Any merchandise ordered as part of the 2020 AJ Bell World Triathlon Leeds will be transferred over to the 2021 event. The merchandise offered for this virtual activity is a different design and order. 

I have registered for the Virtual Challenge, but I used the incorrect email address, am I able to change my email address that is used for the Virtual Challenge?

No, unfortunately not. However, if you email leeds@britishtriathlon.org you can request a refund and we will be able to process this for you and you can then sign up again if you wish.

I have registered for the Virtual Challenge and chosen my distance; however I wish to change this. Is this possible?

I have registered for the Virtual Challenge; how do I link my Strava account?

The adult challenge leaderboard will be visible from Monday 20 July, at 7am and so will the function to connect your Strava account. Simply login go to the dashboard and click the button to connect your Strava account.

I have not received an activation email, what should I do?

The activation email may have gone into your junk inbox, or your inbox may be full, or you may have entered your email address incorrectly. Please check each of these things, and if you are still unable to find your activation email, please contact us at leeds@britishtriathlon.org and we will check that you are on our database.

I have registered for the Virtual Challenge, but when I log in, I cannot see my user dashboard.

Your dashboard and the link to connect to Strava will not be visible until Monday 20 July.  Simply login, go to the dashboard and click the button to connect your Strava account. 

My club doesn’t appear on the club drop down list?

The club list includes all affiliated clubs in England, Wales, and Scotland. Please check with your club to ensure it is affiliated to the relevant home nation. You are welcome to select “Not a member of a club” or if you think your club is affiliated but not on the list, please contact us at leeds@britishtriathlon.org

I’ve registered for the event, where do I put my address for you to send my medal after I have completed the Virtual Challenge?

Once you have completed the Virtual Challenge, you will be asked to submit your postal address in your dashboard, to allow us to send you your exclusive medal.

Can I sign up to the Virtual Challenge more than once?

No, each participant can only sign up to the Virtual Challenge once.

Can I use the same email address that I used to sign up, when signing up my child?

No, each participant requires their own email address in order to participate in the Virtual Challenge.

Do you have to be a member of a club to take part in the Virtual Challenge?

No, we want everyone to take part. If you not a member of an affiliated club, please just select “Not a member of a club” on the sign up form.
